🎓 Year 0–1: Training
After clearing UPSC CSE, candidates become Officer Trainees. Training includes foreign language learning and diplomatic skills at the Foreign Service Institute.
🌍 Year 1–4: Third Secretary
First foreign posting. You work as a language trainee and handle basic diplomatic, political, or consular work.
📜 Year 4–9: Second / First Secretary
You take on independent diplomatic responsibilities in Indian embassies abroad.
🏛 Year 9–14: Counsellor
Senior officer role. Leads sections such as trade, political affairs, or cultural relations.
🌐 Year 14–18: Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission
Second-in-command in major embassies. Plays key role in foreign policy execution.
